Andrej Tisma is Novi Sad (Yugoslavia) based artist, art critic and curator. Since the early '70s mail-artist and networker. Founder of The Institute for the Spreading of Love (1991) and Embargo Art campaign (1992).
Since 1997 Internet artist and activist.

Andrej Tisma was born 1952 in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. Graduated from Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1976. Since early '70s Tisma was concerned with many fields of art : concrete poetry, mail-art, photography, xerox, performance art and video art. Solo exhibitions since 1972 (Novi Sad, Belgrade, New York, Milan, Seoul, Munich, Naples, San Francisco) and since 1969 took part in some 500 collective exhibitions in Yugoslavia and about 40 countries all over the world.

A book of his visual works "Alter – Alternative Works 1972-1982" has been published in Vrsac, 1987 , and a monograph of his rubber-stamp art works in San Francisco, USA, 1996.

In 1991 he was guest lecturer artist at L’Institute Des Hautes Etudes En Arts Plastiques in Paris, France.

Tisma has published his art criticism and essays since 1976 in Yugoslavia and abroad. His book of art criticism and essays "Other Territories" was published in Sremski Karlovci 1992, and a collection of his articles and essays on art in San Francisco, USA, 1996.

He curated numerous art exhibitions in Yugoslavian galleries and museums, and organized about twenty international mail-art exhibitions in Yugoslavia and Canada. Tisma is author of two mail-art monographs: "Private Life" in 1986, and "Nature Gives..." in 1992, as well of a fax-art monograph "FAX HeART" in 1995.

In his web.art work, same as formerly in other media, Tisma is using images found in information media and existing web sites, combining and transforming them into socially and politically engaged works of art.
