    Sites But No Sounds

  • ASCAP The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers is a performing rights licensing organization with a membership of over 68,000 active composers, songwriters, lyricists and music publishers. ASCAP was created in 1914 to provide the link between the creators of music and the users of music. Their board of directors is made up entirely of writers and music publishers elected by and from their membership.

  • BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) BMI is a non-profit organization representing more than 180,000 songwriters, composers, and music publishers with a repertoire of more than 3,000,000 works in all areas of music. BMI distributes royalties to its affiliates for the public performance and digital home copying of their works, and in the future, will distribute potential new royalties for the use of their works in cyberspace. This site, bmi.com, is the BMI repertoire in a searchable database of 7.5 million items, updated weekly, together with one of the Web's most complete funds of information for and about songwriting and songwriters. (That is their PR copy, which I toned down a little.)
