Error Reporting Problem Solved

Perhaps it wasn’t a bad thing that we had the troubles with error reporting today in class.  It may shed some light on how to get these critical messages turned on.  Each installation of PHP is a little different, but there are only a few variables that affect the error reporting.  Unfortunately in class I chose to change the wrong one.  On my MacOSX system, the PHP is configured so that error messages are hidden. To get them to show up, I did this:

These are temporary settings, of course, while debugging. While we’re on “debugging”, I found in wp-settings.php that you can also define a DEBUG variable for the whole of WordPress, so you’ll get more diagnostic info.
