Ideogram Part 2 - Graffiti and Hackers (Autonomy and Identity) :
September 13 - October 8, 2000

"Ideogram n. 1. a symbol representing not the object pictured but something that the object pictured is supposed to suggest 2. a symbol expressing an object or idea without expressing the word for it."

Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines the historical possibilities of symbolism.
The evolution of language, on both a literal and a visual level, is the subject of this series.

Ideogram Part 2 - explores the uses of the web as a collaborative environment. Creating references to public art, territorial marking, style redefining the uses of public and commercial space.

This is apparent in all three projects of Participating artists:
Andy Deck, Mark Napier and the RTMark™

Deck's - "Open Studio", seeks to occupy and articulate a middle ground between art and interactive entertainment, between communication and creativity, and between independent and collaborative expression. Deck's web project Artcontext explores hybrid phenomena like network-drawing spaces, game-like search engines, written pictures, and informative art.

Napier's - "Digital Landfill", an endless archive of digital debris Digital Landfill explores the fine line between these first cousins, art and debris as the use of the found object. That continually mutate through the web interface. Every contribution represents a choice someone made as an evaluation of what 'belongs' in the work. The artwork, like the web, is a cumulative group effort.

Rtmark.com™ - is an internet broker of corporate sabotage projects and other works which critique corporate power. They have presented and promoted over thirty projects since they began in 1991, including Deconstructing Beck, Phone in Sick Day, gwbush.com, and the Etoy Campaign.
